Privacy is of utmost concern for most people. However, we seem to have lost it in the information era, as more info about us (personal data, preferences, habits, etc.) than you can imagine is out there available. Secret Folder does its bit to help you preserve your privacy by letting you lock specific folders in your computers.
The application’s graphical user interface is very easy to use. It is very simple to create a list of folders, which you can toggle lock or unlocked with a single click. The application is secured by a single master password and, unfortunately, you cannot use individual passwords for each folder. If you are worried about protection being overridden by uninstalling the application, it is good for you to know that uninstalling is also password-protected. Fortunately, the locked folders will not be available even if the intruder uses the command line. The tool supports various disk file systems, including NTFS, FAT32, exFAT and FAT, and, luckily, it will not leave any permanent change to file structure, as it does not actually modify it.
All in all, Secret Folder is a small useful application. However, its protection scope is limited by lack of other features that are available from other similar tools. For instance, it cannot create virtual protected drives. Luckily, this program supports multiple languages; however, several typos and grammar mistakes can be found in the website and even in the app’s English version.
